What to Look For In An Adjustable Bench for Tall People

When you’re in the market for an adjustable bench for tall people, pay attention to the following factors:

  • Bench Height – the distance from the bench to the floor will dictate the angle of your legs when you lie on the bench. This in turn will determine the amount of stability and drive you will have when you are bench pressing. When you lie on the bench, you want your upper leg to be parallel with your torso. That means that the bottom of the bench should be about 17 inches from the floor.
  • Bench Length – the worst thing you want as a taller person is to have your head sticking off the end of the bench. This is both uncomfortable and unsafe, especially to the neck and spine. A bench length of 45 inches should be sufficient for most tall people. Keep in mind that, when angled, the bench will provide less length to support your torso and head. Check that the adjustable portion of the back support is at least 30 inches in length.
  • Weight Capacity – Taller people will generally be heavier than shorter ones. You never want to exercise on workout benches that are unable to support your weight plus that of the poundage you are pressing. Look for a bench that has a max user weight (your weight plus the weight on the bar) of around 600-700 pounds.

When you need an adjustable bench for home gym tall weight trainers need to customize their piece of equipment, and none more so than the bench that supports them. You can’t do any better than the three adjustable weight benches we’ve highlighted in this article.
